Board Members this year due to personal obligations, Denis Gladbach as
Scorekeeper and Aaron Singleton as Tournament Director. We were sorry to lose
them but understand their situations. The CMDA would like to thank them for
their years of dedication and service.
These positions have been filled by Keefe Ratte’ (Scorekeeper) and Jay
Anielak (Tournament Director). We, the
Board, would like to thank these volunteers for stepping up and taking over
the responsibilities. The CMDA Singles
Championship was held in January with Mike Turner winning the A-Flight
Division, Tim Dysinger winning the B-Flight Division, and Loretta Schulte
winning the Women’s. Congratulations to all of you. There’s talk about a dart
tournament coming to the Jefferson City, 4th of July Downtown
Celebration, with the possibility of it being ADO Sanctioned and hosting a
CMDA B-Flight only Blind Draw during the tournament. We’ll have to wait and
see what develops. Darts on television! Did
you ever think you would see the day? Well check out Fox Sports Network, they
are televising them on Tuesday’s at 4pm, and Friday’s at 11am. In July, ESPN
will be televising 8 hours of the World Series of Darts, which are being held
at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, May 19th-21st.
The players will consist of 16 individuals from the United States and 16 PDC
(Professional Darts Corporation LTD) players; they are offering $1,000,000 to
the 1st Place winner if they are a US player and $100,000 if a PDC. The
VFW Post 1003 is hosting Blind Draw Tournaments every Thursday at 7pm with
A-Flight and B-Flight players teamed up. They match $2 for every player in
the main event. This event is open to all individuals of any skill level in
hopes of promoting the sport of darts in Jefferson City, MO. The Mystery Out
is currently over $350.00. One Mystery Out number is drawn at every Blind
Draw, if no team hits the out called, then the money carries over to the next
week. Through the summer, they are planning on hosting a Blind Draw
Tournament every Monday and Thursday night. Come hungry, you will find the
room smelling of some good eats prepared by Mary Jane Doerhoff. Thanks Mary
Jane for keeping our bellies full. January was a lucky
month for some of those Blind Draw throwers. Tom Bonnot and Craig Ponder won
$479 on the 5th, then Cari Skain and Dave Cliburn won $251 on the
12th, and again the next week another winner Karen Johnson and
John Johnson won $294 on the 19th. FUNDRAISING AND
VOLUNTEERS The league would also
like to thank other volunteers for their support of the league. John Johnson
recruited over twenty $100.00 sponsors for our tournaments this year. Diana
Bernskoetter donated a quilt and organized the Quilt Raffle held at the 30th
Annual St. Patrick’s Day Tournament, which raised over $900.00. Craig Ponder
has given the website a facelift and kept it updated. If you haven’t visited the CMDA web page
(cmdadarts.org) lately, check it out for all the league info. With all the fundraising
from everyone, the CMDA was able to purchase new tournament standards. The
standards are equipped with new light fixtures, dry erase boards, and are
made from aluminum making it easier to handle and set-up. As of May 2nd,
2006 the CMDA Board has decided to sell the old standards on E-Bay for
$100.00, or to any league member for $50.00. Also for sale are slightly used
dartboards in excellent condition for $35.00, these boards retail for $70.00.
Anyone interested in purchasing these items should contact a Board Member or
your Team Captain. The CMDA Annual
Fundraising BBQ that was held on April 29th at Schulte’s was a
great success. Despite the heavy rains, strong winds, and other snafu’s the
crew of workers pulled it off. The early morning winds were so severe that it
caused the tie down cords to a canopy to be ripped away from its anchor
(Keefe’s Nissan Pathfinder) sailing it all the way across Route C. One
passerby said, “That it was the largest box kite he had ever seen”.
Fortunately, this kite flying adventure caused no accidents or injuries,
although the kite (canopy) sustained large gash. The CMDA would like to
thank these individuals that donated their time to the BBQ; Mary Jane and
Rowland Doerhoff, Dave Cliburn, Ray Singleton, Keefe Ratte’, Craig
Ponder, Diana Bernskoetter, Joe Jerkins, Duane Harris, Cari Skain, John and
Loretta Schulte, John Short, Dawnel Davidson, Jay Anielak, Karen Johnson, and
Aaron Singleton. The League would also like to thank all those who helped
support this event by buying and selling tickets; Coke-A-Cola for the use of
the concession stand and two BBQ pits; Kegley’s for use of a BBQ pit and two
canopies; and Schulte’s for their parking lot. Thanks again to everyone! As always the CMDA is
striving to promote the sport of darts to others in our communities. So, if
you know someone interested in darts, turn them onto the CMDA for some great
fun and new friends. UPCOMING EVENTS
